Golden Saffron and Turmeric Rice


  • 1 cup rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 pinches of saffron
  • 2 tsp of turmeric
  • 2 tsp of cumin
  • 2 tsp of curry powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of pepper
  • 6 asparagus stalks
  • 0.5 cup of frozen peas
  • Juice of half a lemon


  1. Start by chopping your onion and garlic and add them into a saucepan together with the spice on low heat.
  2. Add in the rice and water as well
  3. Let simmer for a while
  4. Once the rice is almost cooked but there is still some water left add in the asparagus stalks (chopped) and frozen peas. 
  5. Let cook until rice is all done.
  6. Once cooked squeeze in half a lemon
  7. Serve together with fresh parsley and whole cooked asparagus
